“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” -1 Samuel 1:27-28

Yesterday we received devastating news. At a 20-week ultrasound, our doctor informed us that our baby, our precious Sweet Pea, has multiple fatal abnormalities and that if the baby were to make it full term that the baby would not survive very long beyond birth. What we know now is that our baby has a severe cleft palate which means that no nose or eyes are detectable, our baby’s heart only has one chamber, our baby’s brain is underdeveloped, our baby’s stomach is next to the heart due to a herniated diaphragm, our baby’s right lung is out of place due to the stomach being where it is not supposed to be and they were unable to identify a left lung, our baby’s kidneys are enlarged and finally the nuchal fold is thickened which is an indicator of down syndrome. It is unknown yet if there is a genetic defect; regardless, the above symptoms are inoperable and not survivable.

WE ARE HEARTBROKEN.

We are praying for a miracle. We ask that you would pray with us too. We are asking God to move everything into place, heal what is broken and create what does not currently exist.

As our sweet sister Sarah told us, “Sweet Pea is in the best environment for these things to take place.”

We do not understand and our emotions range from overwhelming sadness to fear to anger; we are hopeless and we are hope-filled. We believe God is a good Father and that God is trustworthy. We believe that this is true even should God choose not to heal our sweet baby. Today we shred the papers that the doctor gave us regarding abortion. We are choosing to rejoice in every moment that we have with this little life, this little soul, that God has given us. We cherish every flutter and every kick and we shall do so as long as God allows our precious ‘Sweet Pea’ to be alive.

(This is not about politics; it is about our faith. Whatever your view, please be respectful.)

As a family, we will be laying low for a few days and are asking for privacy. We ask that you would pray for the three of us for God’s grace, peace and healing. After we emerge from this private time together as a family, we ask that you would love us. When you see us in public, we know it may be awkward, it may be difficult, but love lives there. We want you to share our joy and if you are able our sorrow as well.

“Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” -Isaiah 40:26
